The Magazines for fireworks and ammunition:
A certain amount of projectiles was
allowed for every weapon and stored in the magazines. As for the
Schoenenbourg they can be itemized as follows :
- 4,000 rounds per 75 mm gun
(viz. 16,000 shells),
- 3,200 rounds per 81 mm mortar
(viz. 6,400 shells),
- 140,000 cartridges per twin
machine-gun,
- 200,000 cartridges for the
machine-gun turret,
- 40,000 cartridges per
automatic rifle within a 'cloche',
- 1,000 cartridges per automatic
rifle for frontal coverage,
- 1,000 grenades, cal. 50 mm,
per hand grenade launcher,
- a variable amount of F1
grenades for the grenade muzzle,
- miscellaneous articles.
Additional quantities of shells and
cartridges and other requirements were available at the sector's
depot, located in the vicinity, i.e. a few miles away, and could
actually be sent for within a short time.
